The Dwarfing of Pluto:  The Elevation of Ceres and the Divine Feminine (Part One)
By Quan Tracy Cherry

Wow!  The International Astronomers Union (IAU) classified Pluto as a ‘dwarf planet’.  My ilk are quick to dismiss it, but what if
we look at what does it mean that this decision occurred now?  I postulate that is not the demotion of Pluto.  It is the elevation of
Ceres.

(In 1851, Ceres was demoted to asteroid status, after being considered a planet for 50 years. 2003 UB313 (aka Xena) while
important does not have the centuries of observation behind her/it, so I will discuss this dwarf planet from a popular culture
perspective later in the article.)

Astrologers are modern day storytellers.  Loving the fact that some of my ancestors came from Western Africa (I fully plan to get
DNA testing to conclusively know my folk were from Dahomey.), the term griot (West African storyteller) has genetic roots for
me.

Here’s a story about Pluto/Hades also known as myth.  If it weren’t for the myths, I could easily bore in my practice.  I still have
fond memories of Ms. Goldman’s Intro to Mythology course I took at Wayne State University as an undergraduate in Detroit,
Michigan.  It made the daytime dramas infinitely more fascinating, knowing the back story and all.  To this day, I continue to
record General Hospital.

Mythology of Pluto, Ceres and Persephone

When Zeus/Jupiter, Poseidon/Neptune and Hades/Pluto overthrew the Titans, the three brothers drew lots for which parts of the
universe they would have over which they would have dominion.  Zeus/Jupiter got Mount Olympus (and many lovers),
Poseidon/Neptune had sovereignty over the seas and Hades/Pluto got the underworld.  Needless to say, Pluto (I’ll use the Roman
planet names hereafter) was not thrilled.  Who would love this god?  There are only two instances where he came up from the
underworld, and even then, he also possesses a hat that renders him invisible.

Ceres/Demeter and Persephone had an incredible mother and daughter bond.  Through this blessed bond, there was a perpetual
harvest on earth.  Persephone grew into a hottie.  Pluto had noticed (along with others).  Ceres watched her daughter like a hawk.
One day, Persephone recognized a budding narcissus flower.  She smelled and picked it.  Earth opened up, Pluto abducted (and
raped) her, earth sealed back up.  Where was the fair Persephone?  No one knew.  Some accounts suggest the crone Hecate
witnessed the event.  Ceres took off her diadem.  She refused to eat or bathe for nine days and nights.  Either the seer and sun god,
Helios, told her where Persephone was or Hecate.  Whatever, the point is Ceres did not stay being the Goddess of grain.  She
wandered the earth as a grief stricken old woman.  She served as a nanny for a royal child too in the city of Eleusis.  Jupiter,
however, allowed Persephone to stay in the underworld.  Persephone ate pomegranate seeds (it’s a no-no to eat in the
underworld).  The compromise between Pluto and Ceres was for every pomegranate seed Persephone ate she’d have to stay in the
underworld with Pluto.  To the ancient peasants this explained winter.  When Persephone is with her husband, Ceres’ grief causes
nothing to grow, hence winter.

Modern Day Applications

“The classification doesn't matter, Pluto -- and all solar system objects -- are mysterious and exciting new worlds that need to be
explored and better understood. Anytime we visit a new world -- planet, moon, asteroid, comet, whatever -- we make exciting and
surprising new discoveries about the evolution of our solar system and about our own planet."
  Louis Friedman, executive director
of The Planetary Society.

The Lord of the underworld classified as mysterious, it‘s a Pluto thang you wouldn’t understand.  Unless you have a lot of Scorpio
or have lived with or loved one of us, you just won‘t understand.  Like Will Smith first major hit, “Parents, just don‘t understand.”
Pluto likes being misunderstood.

I know Pluto would enjoy being classified as mysterious, it was rumored that anytime he came to the upper world he wore his
invisibility hat.  He and Scorpio rule over the mysteries of life, birth, death and sex.  What really happens in the sex act?  Have you
seen someone leave their bodies at death?  Where does our souls go?  How do you recognize your soul?  These are the mysteries
upon which Pluto feeds and thrives.  Without mystery, Pluto atrophies and the world has little to no meaning.  And, thanks to the
IAU (International Astronomers Union) the door has been unlocked to the mysteries of what makes a planet.  Hallelujah!  This
weary astrologer generates immense affection all around anytime this adolescent society looks up and within instead of down and
without.

It took Pluto moving into the sign of Scorpio 1983/84 for our planet to recognize through AIDS that when you have sex with
someone, you have had sex with everyone they have as well.  Yes, we are one.  Pluto under his Greek incarnation is called Hades,
which is sometimes spelled Aides, coincidence?  As an astrologer, griot and symbolist, I use all available information as fodder for
our soul’s growth.  After all, the soul sets up our physical existence for our ability to evolve, solar systems and all.

Even though astronomers have little respect for their ancient astrological roots, astrology continues to thrive and insinuate itself into
our modern day culture as a visionary art form and sacred language.  Planets are named after the gods and goddesses of old.
However, the downgrading of Pluto paved the way for a reclassification of the largest asteroid, Ceres.  She was the first to be
discovered on January 1, 1801, technically the first day of the 19th century.  The IAU classified Pluto, Ceres and 2003 UB313 (aka
Xena) as “dwarf planets” near the beginning of the 21st century.  Y2K notwithstanding, a new day and vision have become very
necessary.  As in the 19th century women and blacks were at best second class citizens, what does this dwarfing of Pluto but
equalizing with Ceres foretell for the second class citizens or the developing world of our global village?

Pluto as mythological enemy of Ceres centuries later has been irrevocably tied to her, just like these two had to share Persephone.
Whatever the scientists determine in the future, these two dwarf planets symbolize the focus and emphasis on the feminine energies
on this planet.  Consider the other dwarf planet, Xena, named after a fictional character on television.  Xena, The Warrior Princess,
was a cult favorite among many lesbians and gay men.  The relationship between Xena and Gabrielle had many homoerotic
currents.  Xena (rumored to be fathered by Aries/Mars) was a female-centric show.  Like Persephone, Xena took a journey away
from her mother and developed her own identity.  It featured a powerful woman warrior (Amazonian in makeup) who blended
masculine and feminine traits expertly.  Xena was not a butch dyke, lipstick lesbian or ball breaker.  Her character exemplified a life
of integrating strength and compassion (certainly for Gabrielle and any folk who needed defending).  Sure, it was campy (I
purchased a bumper sticker that read “Xena Rules”, yes, it was in San Francisco and it had a small rainbow border).  I enjoy the
fact that the writers used many mythological elements in their writing.  (Have you seen the Excedrin commercial depicting
Poseidon with a headache and a boat on a tempestuous sea?)

Astrologers As Pioneering Visionaries

We have a role to play in society as astrologers.  The storytellers, for sure, keep the dreams alive for humanity (shades of Dr. King
and Carl Jung).  Yet, as pioneers we cannot stop to tailor our visions or messages in order to be accepted.  Pioneers must be
unconcerned with popularity polls or setting up rules.  Leave that for those who want to lead and manage.  Inspire folk to think for
themselves, that is one of the best functions of an astrologer or reader who uses what Jung called “great dreams of humanity”
(myths) in their practice and daily lives.

What are the chances that the largest asteroid would be considered a dwarf planet at the same time the planet that shares the most
intimate ancient mythology is demoted?  And, there is nothing to the old stories and myths, huh?  Even the most skeptical has to
rethink the connection between art and science, astrology and astronomy.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m wholly unconcerned about
what astronomers think about my astrological practice and knowledge.  I think astrologers as storytellers inspire people to gain self-
awareness and hopefully live more fulfilling lives.

Xena As Ruler

For the record, this pioneering visionary would love to live in a world where Xena rules.  Maybe, just maybe,  this third dwarf
planet has a hidden agenda and vision of true peace and contentment.  I understand it was a television show.  However, remember
the etymology of the word ‘television’, it means ‘to see from afar’.  Are the planets near us?  We see them from afar.  As our lives
become increasingly complex, we pick up quick sound bites in order to understand the nature of our reality.  Xena is as good an
anchor as what we feed ourselves through the daily news or propaganda.  Scheeh, she is even better.

As ruler, Xena would have a society where women and men could fulfill untraditional gender roles.  True visions, real ones  can
only occur when our inner contra sexual energies are in sync.  In other words, each female has an internal masculine energy aka
animus (Jung) and each male has an internal feminine energy aka anima.  When Pluto was discovered in 1930, psychologically
driven words such as projection, subconscious and persona were not widely used.  But, today we talk about our subconscious and
ego did this or that as we talk about the weather.  And, you think I care what a bunch of astronomers say about Pluto?

Dwarfing Pluto Does Not Affect My Astrological Practice

In order to be a practicing astrologer in this buckle of the Bible belt, I’ve developed a resiliency that consistently surprises me.  In
January, 2006, I celebrated my tenth anniversary of being a full time astrologer.  As a non-practicing attorney, I continually educate
myself as if I were a practicing one.  (Lawyers have to enroll in continuing education to keep their licenses active, I do the same
just with astrology.)  Had I been a practicing lawyer, I would not have the breadth or depth of knowledge I do now.  Astrology and
its symbols can be applied to all aspects of human life.

If I had maintained my fundamentalist roots, I would not be here writing this article.  My brothers told me in 1985 that I would die
at Armageddon, if I left being a Jehovah’s Witness.
I did die.  I died to a life of spiritual famine like Ceres wandering the earth as a
bereaved old woman except encapsulated in a young black male one.  Before I studied astrology, I chose to leave religion, career,
home and family.

At that time, Pluto (transformation/death/rebirth) was transiting over my Sun (consciousness, identity, ego).  Again, I ask the
question, what do these astronomers know about the working of true spirit and soul?  Not a whole lot.  A
t least 30% of my
clients come to see Pluto’s child (I am Scorpio, Pluto rules my sign) when they are having major aspects (communicative
angles) to their Sun, Moon or other intricately connected planets in their natal charts.  If it were not for Pluto, I would
not have a practice
.

If I were not born a Scorpio, I would not have this passionate interest in what drives people.  Hell, I like the dwarf planet
classification, Pluto and his children get more done when they are not in spotlight (remember his invisibility hat, shades of Harry
Potter’s invisibility cloak).  Pluto also gives us the knowledge of what is hidden from view.  He knows knowledge is power, and he
will share only with those who are relentless in their quest for evolution.

Let Your Will Take Place

There is a pagan maxim ’as above, so below’ or for the Jesus-centered “let your will take place on earth as it in heavens”.  The
theory (which I know is true) when we are ready for evolution on earth, planets are discovered or reclassified.  Similar to an actor
taking her cue about when to go on stage, Pluto revealed himself in 1930 smack dab between two world wars and more than a
smattering of megalomaniacs.  Depth psychology was in its toddler stages.  It was as taboo to see a shrink as it is today to see an
astrologer.  Humans developed the capacity to wipe off life on this planet.  The underworld symbolically represents what is hidden,
repressed or denied in psychological terms.  Yet, in mythological terms Pluto was the lord of death, rebirth and transformation.  As
a collective we are primed for another major change.

You may be thinking how does a reclassification mean all of this.  For decades now, there has been a realigning of male and female
energies.  We have done patriarchy (remember how Jupiter did nothing regarding Persephone’s abduction and rape?)  How
phallocentric!  Jupiter represents the spirit behind written laws.  How many times does this society blame victims of rape or
abduction?  Know about the Stockholm syndrome as it relates to the complex relationship developed between abductors and
abductees?

Before patriarchy, matriarchy existed.  Imagine the bliss between mother and daughter in the Ceres and Persephone story.  Imagine
a world without harsh winters.  Imagine a time where all children are wanted and protected.  In essence, this third millennium
demands we grow to balance our male and female sides of ourselves.  In this dawning of the age of Aquarius, we can no longer
project the undeveloped sides of our natures onto others. Know this:  What will save this planet is what saved Ceres and Pluto,
compromise.  Ceres fed everyone.  As the granddaughter of Gaia and in her role as universal mother, to this day she carries the
promise of sustenance of all.  When Ceres could not care for her own daughter, she cared for other people’s children (royal child,
Demophoon---are we not all someone’s child?)  But, when there is excessive attachment (yin, feminine), the universe balances it
out through separation and individuality (yang, masculine) or vice versa in the case of Pluto and living in the underworld all alone.
It is a simple but difficult timeless truth.
(End of part one, in Part Two, I will explore a new definition of the family and offer future visions for the planet.)

Saturn/Neptune Opposition Part One

New Feature

From an old feature…used to write weekly for the PitchWeekly.  Please note each week is not all about you.  Astrology as a
tool for compassion focuses on the interrelatedness of us and with/through the planets.  But each weekly article will contain
information about your relationship to others and their signs.  We tend to grow faster within groups.  And, the group of two
begins our reflective process that aids our evolution.  A major goal of our souls is to evolve.  The All-There-Is wants to
know him and herself throughout each incarnation of our human family (we can discuss beings on other planets later).
Astrology is one way to earmark our personal, interpersonal and transpersonal evolution.  Each week combines planetary
angles that affect each sign, ascendant and Moon differently.  Don’t know what I said in the last sentence?  Email me.

Astrology At Work (practical applications of the planetary movements)

Forecast for Scorpio August 18, 2006...here’s my extra push w/o a false sense of confidence…Relinquishing control is a
good thing (advised)  Your professional drive is strongly affected by the power of positive thinking, so pay careful attention
to where your thoughts take you now. It's not that you can manifest anything you visualize, but it could feel that way. This
false sense of confidence can be a trap, so be aware. If you reach too far, your plans can fall apart all too fast. On the other
hand, if you don't expand your goals, little progress will be made. An extra push will be rewarded.
Here’s my extra push (Internet style)…

The Orientations of the Zodiac

How you choose to call yourself and what behaviors you center your life around are not always the same.  Circumstances
may dictate restraint.  Each of the 12 signs has a center of consciousness that contains an orientation.  The three orientations
are personal, interpersonal and transpersonal.  Personal signs include Aries, Taurus, Gemini and Cancer.  My spirit and the
way I show up on the world’s stage (Aries).  My stuff and what makes me feel comfortable as I maneuver on the world’s
stage (Taurus).  My logic and what cannot be explained logically but creates immense curiosity in me to name these
phenomena incites my mind to appear on the world’s stage (Gemini).  My place where I belong and how I feel I support
others on the world’s stage (Cancer).

Interpersonal signs provide the undercurrent of relating to others as equals.  These signs include Leo, Virgo, Libra and
Scorpio.  Exuding with sparkly energy, Leo joins with another to extend itself joyously, to literally keep the other in its
gravitational field.  What I could do by myself, I want to include you runs through Leo’s heart.  Virgo perfects herself in
order to know how much intimacy she can endure with you.  In essence, Virgo fixes herself.  Sometimes it is difficult to
figure out how to repair the flaws and not collapse into playing the constant submissive.  Libra (being the first sign above the
horizon and therefore initiates the soul into society and what is called objective awareness) thrives on being with another to
balance their primal urges.  Libra can be selfish and selfless in the same breath.  Call them on their manipulations to get you
to follow their relationship agendas, especially if they didn’t call for your consensus first.
Scorpio takes Libra’s process and adds emotional depths to it.  Loyal beyond belief, after you’ve been tested, observed and
confronted.  Once a commitment is made, the gloves come off, but the hands have been soften through the use of lotion.

Transpersonal (or collective) signs seek to create a big picture awareness within their lives.  Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius
and Pisces strive to make their marks on the world.  Sag does this through finding a workable philosophy that ensures their
right to be taken seriously and when not to be.  These mutable people take what Scorpio discovered regarding the mysteries
of life and death to the people in the form of religion, law or publishing.  Capricorn, often born as an old child, wraps the
dark handkerchief around their eyes and proclaims darkness.  Once these sensitive souls test themselves and find
worthiness, no one can balance humility and confidence better.  Aquarius corrects a Capricorn flaw, too much planning and
control stifles true soul growth.  Let’s imagine a brand new world.  I must have freedom or die a slow death even it’s only
the freedom of thought.  Pisces ends our circle of animals.  It’s difficult to talk about this flexible flowing water sign without
sounding like a minister.  Redemption, surrender, faith round out their mission to become a vehicle for the higher impulses of
spirit.  However, in this world of duality cannot ride the highs without being tempted to live in the lower.  The magical trick
is to blend both and not express guilt or shame.  What a difficult task for the two fish swimming in opposite directions.

Saturn/Neptune (unfulfilled dreams), generational aspect, but individuals comprise the generation, the whole.  These two
planets operate squarely from a transpersonal perspective.  Where do you belong?  What role do you want to play in
society?   Dreams are made up of Neptunian stuff, the astral/spiritual plane of existence.  Saturn wants to make things
manifest.  He keeps score on the physical plane.  He makes things matter.  He wants you to face the third dimensional reality
as it is.  Saturn delays, but he does not deny.  You must do your work.  And, it is irrelevant how many lives you have had on
this planet.  If you are in third dimension, you must still work.

What do you think about the universe?  It seems to me that the universe requires that you must put something in.  Intention,
action and the awareness of co creating your reality.  In this co creation, Saturn mandates that you do not go into a spaced
out rendition of it, but to acknowledge your personal power through discipline and an acceptance of your chosen fate.  In his
esoteric mantle, he governs the law of economy and karma.  Any grace experienced, or most grace proffered oozes through
the redemptive waters of Neptune.  Can you see how these two planets make for uncomfortable bedfellows?  However,
once they get their pragmatic and mystical grooves on, you can indeed create heaven on earth.  Hell on earth, while an easier
option over the past 2000 years of human history, notwithstanding, can also be your choice.  Yet, this Saturn/Neptune
opposition on August 31 falls in the signs of Leo (co creation) and Aquarius (community).

A Note on Reality Creation

I changed my name legally to Quan, from Paul.  I had begun to see myself as connection to this Chinese Goddess of
Compassion and Mercy.  Quan Yin ‘hears the cries of the world’.  It does not say She does anything about what she hears.
Maybe, just maybe, it is best to listen, thereby allowing a person to hear what he or she is saying and answers reveal
themselves in the telling, the confession.  I am completely aware I am not this massive energy of this Goddess.  Yet, I am
aware of how Quan Yin aids me in the creation of the reality I want to live with on this planet of two genders.  (In Tibet,
Quan Yin was a male god, a transgendered god/dess would choose me :-)  She has helped me accept my chosen fate of
race, class, gender and sexuality (again accessing gnosis regarding the timeless aspect of my soul).  In return, I assist others
in accepting their beingness, to be inspired by their beingness.  Any lofty force can chose you to create your reality, as well
as any not so lofty one.  Sometimes it is a mixture of what is termed good and bad that makes for the best creative gumbo of
life, love, heaven and hell.  Saturn simply tests your motivations behind wanting to be a Neptune do-gooder.  Sure, we’re all
in this together, but don’t you still have to pull your own weight.  What about the adage that God helps those who help
themselves?  Even as an older soul, if you have physicality (gravity) then you’re under Saturn’s province.  Yes, we can use
our knowledge from prior lives, but this is the life that aches to be lived.  Use what you know, work smarter, not harder
(places those mantras and affirmations in perspective, now doesn’t it?)

Most timeless truths are simple aphorisms.  Paradoxically, the simplest truths are the most difficult to master.  That is
because they strike at the core of our collective illusions.  These illusions start at birth, generally, through strong parental,
cultural and religious projections that we are meant to not question (excessive Saturn restraint, remember in Greek myth he
swallowed his children).  If we do, our very membership in the privileged group comes into immediate scrutiny.  In a true
sense, through being born in an oppressed group (non-privileged) group can aid in the quickening of separating from the
collective illusions (this can be true whether this oppression is obvious as in race/gender or less so through sexual orientation
or class).  However, if there is not a corresponding spirituality developed as this separation process occurs (healthy
Neptune), it is easy to become bitter.  Another subculture illusion (which can be as powerful as long as you are consistently
surrounded by them) will take the main culture’s illusion.  In essence, one illusion replaces another.

Interestingly enough, Neptune casts the veil that Saturn crystallizes.  It takes great work within to face nebulous Neptune
squarely without falling into the trap that the physical plane is all there is.  Utilizing the symbols of unity and so-called
coincidences aids in the ego at last acknowledging its connection to every living being.  The ego is a bad word from Neptune’
s perspective (who likes to dissolve differences), but not from Saturn (who likes to construct walls).  Saturn likes the ego,
particularly when it serves the superego comprised of mores, customs and beliefs.  But, both Saturn and Neptune eschew
the ego when it is out only from self-aggrandizement.

Both planets share the virtues of duty and obligation.  Saturn consistently demands more precision at whom to perform your
responsible acts.  Neptune just feels the entire kit and caboodle of togetherness, this energy often leads us to make vague
inchoate and indiscriminate sacrifices (having porous boundaries can be a real problem when this planet is active).  The
receiver of such obligation often feels the sticky-wicket of codependency.  However, at some indeterminate crossroad of
Saturn and Neptune the question of where I end and you begin comes into a multiple plane focus.  Yes, as suspected, it is a
question of boundaries.  On the denser planes (in third dimension), Saturn rules and pinpoints your responsibilities in the co
creation of reality.  Saturn ,through his discipline, begins to work you over exposing your insecurities.  Even it’s a
JCPenney
moment (I love their jingle “It’s All Inside”), Saturn sometimes sadistic gaze gives you the courage to embrace the
meandering astral waters of Neptune.  In essence, Saturn constructs the boat that Neptune rocks.

Language of Faith

Let the beauty that we love be what we do.  There are hundred of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.  Rumi

How easy is it to have philosophical and/or spiritual discussions where everyone is in agreement?  Saturn scoffs at such
mental masturbations.  He plays the Devil’s advocate.  He wants to draw you out, and often he does this through lack and
neglect.  Suffering and necessity are two teachers of making peace with the physical plane.  Or should I say making war?  It
often comes as war first, then through brutally honest reflection you can begin to ascertain how the suffering tempered your
metal, turning your lead into alchemical gold.  Being born a Jehovah’s Witness (how Saturn is that?), I realized early on that
my Neptunian intuition could only be considered the Devil in a red jockstrap tempting me to break Jehovah’s hold on my
fragile sensibilities (most religions seek to control the powerful sex force).  Yet when an inner voice instructed me to “put on
your safety belt” (similar to the disembodied voice in
Field of Dreams) only to deliver me uninjured from what could have
been a fatal car accident, I knew I was being kept alive to do exactly what I am doing now…healthily combining the
rules/law/legislation of Saturn with the miraculous/spirited/redemptive Neptune.  (I enrolled in law school a mere year after
this accident).  This life that had begun riding fundamentalist and Jehovah bound  mutated into an open-hearted Quan Yin
devotee.  Actually, I began to feel grace and to recognize it at this time.  At this point, my regulatory Saturn surrenders to the
Neptunian adage “there are timeless truths in all religions, it is the shortsighted vision of the followers that you must be wary
of.”  (So what I made up this adage, give it another 33 years and it’ll be old enough to be called an adage, right?)

The Snake and the Priest

The snake had a bad reputation.  No one wanted him around.  He went to a priest who instructed him to stop biting the
townsfolk.  When it became known that the snake had become non aggressive and kind, the people began the torture the
snake through throwing stones.  The snake returns in frustration and described his new found plight to the priest.  The priest
replied, “I told you not to bite, I did not tell you to stop hissing.”  Saturn is our collective hiss.  Much like physical pain tells
our brain that the body has been compromised, too much Neptune (bliss) attracts the sort that will throw stones and harm
even thwart our most innocent of visions.  Saturn offers the protective shell so Neptune visions can grow in their own time
and fully take into account the rigors of the physical plane.  Saturn detests dilettantes and those who have not done their
homework.  Neptune can be full of good intentions that can pave that famous road hell faster than several community
service convicts decked out in orange.  Saturn wants results and while he moves through Leo, it is the personal responsibility
that truly matters.  Neptune wants peace, but do not mistake this god of the oceans for a pacifist.

Esoteric Saturn/Neptune

To most (at least 60% of US population) thinks astrology is esoteric.  This allows this segment of the populace to deny
taking responsibility for their spiritual and soulful development.  Spirit operates most easily through the fire element (Aries,
Leo, Sagittarius) while soul does so through the water element (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces).    To get beyond the external and
locate our
JCPenney moments of It all being inside, esoteric guardians also known as rulers are the path to take.  Saturn
rules Capricorn on the external as well as internal or esoteric levels of being.  (Do you prefer I say ‘planes of existence’?)
Neptune rules or guards Cancer on the esoteric level of being.  Neptune generates a lot of fire underneath water.  Cancer is
five signs (Leo) from Pisces (Neptune’s exoteric ruler) and eight (Scorpio) signs away from Sagittarius (Jupiter rules
exoterically).  Hence, Neptune combines the concentrated and primal energies of fire and water through Cancer as her
esoteric ruler.  Pisces has Jupiter and Neptune as her rulers.  I will not talk about Pisces without adding the influence of
Jupiter.  It would not only be rude, but shortsighted and by Jove, neither this primary occupant of Mount Olympus or I be
either.  (The use of the ‘be’ verb suggests a temporal quality of in perpetuity.)

Cancer/Neptune and Capricorn/Saturn meet in opposition in fire and air signs.  Saturn in Leo is markedly less comfortable
from an esoteric perspective than Neptune in Aquarius.  Are you ready for the transformations that ensue?  Neptune has an
out, a major escape hatch.  And, does he not enjoy this mutual reception between him and his grandfather, Uranus.  You see,
Uranus moves through Pisces (Neptune ruled) and Neptune oozes through Aquarius (Uranus ruled), there she and
transgendered she-he blows, hopefully until all engaged parties have full enjoyment.  Planets in mutual reception reinforce the
power of each other.  It is grand.  It is broad.  It moves the collective towards self-determination or in New Age talk co-
creation of reality.

Can you choose to be less heavy as these times unfold?  Can you chose to run your errands all at once whenever possible to
ultimately use less fuel no matter what vehicle you own or use?  Can you perceive a time of co-existence between the
attention needing organized religions that produce fundamentalist spawn?  Who knows?  If you do not choose to take the
time to locate your inner truths and then act on them, how may this old soul exalted server aid you?  How can we all
participate as sincere actors (Sun) in this illusion (Neptune) performing our chosen life tasks (Saturn) without getting overly
attached (Moon) to the illusion?  It is not easy, but oh, so necessary.

For more information on how this aspect will affect you and yours personally, please get in touch with me.  If you don’t
know your Moon sign, you are at a marked disadvantage.  Our Moon signs behave our gateway into recognizing how our
attachments keep us mired in habitual ways of reacting to our life’s circumstances.  The sign of the Moon often leads us into
the deeper, collective waters of Neptune.
Food, Generosity & Sex
by Quan Tracy Cherry
(Part One—Food)
02-20-2006
Having a conversation with a couple of friends about a date (how 5/11th house is that?, the 5th rules dating/romance & the
11th rules friendship), I realized that after someone didn’t offer a second Reese’s cup to me during an intermission (to a
musical show in which I got the tickets) this person would also be less than generous in bed.  You know how I do, I
connect what isn't ordinarily connected---it's what I do, well.  The point?  When you are in bed, you are more likely to
freeze up rather than let go.  When you are eating, you are more likely to relax and flow than to freeze up.  It's a rare bird
that likes to dangle in the wind, nakedly.  I think they're called exhibitionists.  Therefore, when my date (I use the term
loosely), didn't offer a piece of the candy (that I gave to him for Valentine's Day) even after I hinted that I gave the candy
to him sensing he had a sweet tooth, I surmised his lack of generosity in bed.  Even if we were only to be friends, my
friends (of either sex) tend to be more generous than not.  And, don't we ultimately want to be in love with someone who is
also our friend?  Let me tell you something, I know I could have directly asked for a piece of candy, but sometimes don't
you want to be offered a sweet or two?  Ironically, we went to see the a capella group
Sweet Honey in the Rock and here
I am discussing how candy acts as the symbolic parameter of this friendship.
Astrological note: The above non-candy giving male is an Aquarius male, Virgo Moon with lots of Saturn.  In his defense,
he was born the Chinese year of the Ox (a domesticated animal that is often yoked, probably because they need
direction... :-).  Ox folk are associated with the Knowledge and Self-Cultivation area in Feng Shui.  They are learning
themselves and how to relate to others from a position of self-awareness.  He is unaware.
Biases: Conscious and Subconscious
The foregoing story forms what I call the Conscious Bias (CB).  A conscious bias occurs when you are aware of how you
want to treat others based on how you'd like to be treated.  You must articulate or be ready to articulate what has
happened between you and another when utilizing your CB you choose to take as much responsibility for what you could
have done to correct the situation.  Or you may choose to be accountable when you do nothing, and it ends not to your
liking.  There are no victims here.
Several years ago my partner gave me a taste of Hagen Daas Coffee Ice Cream.  It tasted good, but how she put the
spoon in my mouth was too forceful (hello, I’ve got my sensitivities).  My Subconscious Bias (SB) focused upon the way
the spoon was shoved into my mouth unexpectedly (maybe I just didn’t like her at that moment).  My Conscious Bias
(CB) thought to reject the action but enjoy the ice cream.  Your biases can overwhelm, conflict or support each other.
Through awareness of your biases, you court enlightenment.
The next story forms what I call the Subconscious Bias (SB).
As a child whenever my mother sent me to the store, she would give me an amount of money.  If she gave me a dollar and
asked me to pick up a bag of potato chips and I purchased too small a bag in order to have change, she would send me
back to the store.  She'd want me to purchase the largest bag for the amount of money she had given to me.  Therefore,
my Subconscious Bias leans toward spending and generosity.  I am predisposed to tip a little bit more to insure prompt
(TIP) service.  When you see this childhood story in light of the failed date and the piece of candy, you begin to understand
how our biases can enlighten and inform or keep us embittered and isolated.  I prefer the former.  I want to be seen as a
generosity person, in spirit and deed—and primarily I only wish to relate to people who are similar.
Food, Astrological Signs and Biases
Food often underscores our biases in how we treat others.  In forming relationships, food potentially ranks higher in priority
for the earth (Taurus/Virgo/Capricorn) and water (Cancer/Scorpio/Pisces) than the fire (Aries/Leo/Sagittarius) and air
(Gemini/Libra/Aquarius).
However, if you know your Moon sign then realize that's your Subconscious Bias (SB) toward food.  For example, an
Aries Moon's SB will not see food from a relationship angle.  But if the person has a Cancer Sun, her CB will be to
prioritize food as comfort and how to show support to another person (whether she cooks it or not).  Read both your Sun
and Moon signs.  Your Sun sign will act more as your Conscious Bias; your Moon sign demonstrates your Subconscious
Bias.  Your rising sign means you look
as if you behave this way around food.  A little confused?  Good, it’ll cause you to
think and decide what to do with this info yourself or call me, that’s why I get paid the big bucks...
Aries (CB): You’re plucky.  You want to try new foods and under unique circumstances.  The vendor on the corner
outside your office, the new chef at your favorite restaurant or the neighborhood buffet, whatever the venue, it must delight
your impatient warrior within.  The CB may very well be a need to keeping trying new foods without settling on any true
favorites for any length of time, while simultaneously screaming how bored you are with your available choices.  If you can
remember that you were born to discover your individual tastes (and share), we’ll remember to give you more leniency,
and, maybe, just maybe, behave more flexibly.
Aries (SB):  The food must be hot and spicy and quick. Even if your Mars in Cancer (rules the stomach) and you have a
diagnosed ulcer, the temptation to load on the hot sauce and peppers can be overwhelming.  Although you won't admit it,
your low blood sugar at times is responsible for your snappy tone and temper.  You simply cannot wait for their meals.
Keep snacks available.  Do not destroy our mood because your ‘special’ dish takes too long to prepare.  You must
become aware of how you can feed on confrontation.  Sometimes your mother may have fed you before you knew what
you wanted.  That’s why we might allow a tantrum or two as you discover your true self, apart from your family of origin.
Taurus (CB): Meat and potatoes, all the way.  Unless your particular value system demands a vegan lifestyle, find out
what mom served them as a child and make it at least as well as she did.  Better yet, call their mothers to get the recipe.
Your palate can bore us after a spell, therefore, getting you to try new dishes may be a challenge.  Here’s how we’ll
challenge your resistant eating habits: Have a dinner party.  Prepare your comfortable favorite.  Make enough just for you.
We eat what we want you to try.  When everyone else moans with delight, you’ll ask for a taste.  We will have perfected
the recipe, because we know your critique can be harsh.
Taurus (SB): Read Taurus CB and add 20% more determination and/or stubbornness for your comfort foods.  You
probably are an excellent cook and know all the best restaurants for the best price.  It’s hard to fool you when it comes to
what we put in our recipes, therefore it’s best to tell you, unless you want to play the game of 50 questions.  You don’t like
to rush the process of preparing, eating or cleaning up after the meal.  You won’t forgive this behavior (as if you forgive at
all).  Tell us what you really want and more importantly when you’re upset, OK?
Gemini (CB): Variety is the spice of your life.  Multifaceted soul you will sometimes choose the strange bird with whom
to eat in order to have increased variety in your life. While eating have other activities occurring.  Whether that’s music, TV
or multiple conversations flying off into different tangents, you need lots of mental simulation.  You can keep up.  It’s best
to err on the side of too much stimulation (tastes, atmosphere, people) than not enough.  So if you are not with an excellent
conversationalist, give them a newspaper or have them Google some intriguing topics before you supper.
Gemini (SB): Life your mercurial sibling sign of Virgo, the eating area has to orderly and clean.  It’s one thing to be free
from clutter (straightening up) or to be free from dirt (cleaning up).  Your eyes don’t move around the environment, they
dart.  You see where we’re hiding the bleach, so it’s best for you to think we’ve used it.  Your food must have multiple
tastes and be layered.  Aesthetics count so if your dish or you are gorgeous it helps your mood and digestion.
Cancer (CB): With some signs (Taurus & Scorpio) the Conscious and Subconscious Biases are almost indistinguishable.
This homebody sign demonstrates this well.  Food connects them to your past.  If the family of origin had dinner together
most nights, you get impressed if your partner suggests this activity.  No being upset while you eat, it’s best to save the
most sensitive topics to later after you’re sated.  Create a personal atmosphere of trust and conversation will flow
smoothly. Be too loud and direct and you’ll shut down and withdraw.  No one should underestimate the power of your
ability to create and sustain a mood or atmosphere.
Cancer (SB): The company matters as much as the food.  No surprises warranted.  No extra dinner guests unless we’re
cooking or the guests are in legitimate need of a home cooked meal.  Good luck defining legitimate. You are the most
subjective folk of the zodiac.  We must learn your personal stories around food and tailor our relationship to fit the
healthiest aspects of these stories.  Otherwise, you’ll drip, drip, drip and blame others for your lack of satisfaction.  If we
really want you, we’ll allow you to suggest your favorite recipes or restaurants.
Leo (CB): Let’s see and be seen.  The more insecure, the more impressed you’ll want to be.  You’ll want our credit cards
to be open and available.  The more secure, the more impressed you’ll be by the time you spent on the meal or selecting
the restaurant.  We’ll will tailor our selection to your latest interest (you consistently have a curiosity or two).  You desire
no group dates unless it has a finite beginning and end or your presence will boost our career.  You can be ambitious and
dinner should be no exception.
Leo (SB): Privacy is a must once you know your eating companion.  Do not underestimate your  having many suitors or
options for dinner.  You also (when secure) really, I mean, really enjoy your own company.  You want to hear grand
stories or jokes.  You don’t mind be ordered for if we’ve taken the time to get to know you and your tastes. Pay the tip
when you unsure of what you want from your dinner companion or when you need a sense of control.  Moving a slow to
medium pace is chilled as long as we remain confident and a bit showy.
Virgo (CB): The pickier, the better, you are made this way.  The body parts that your sign rules are the intestines.
Needing much intestinal fortitude (pun intended) to handle today’s toxins requires a diet developed personally from
experience.  So what if you’re gluten or lactose intolerant?  Use tofu carefully and sparingly, huh?  What’s important is that
you take the time to enjoy your food and even more importantly choose lovers and mates who understand you’ll make it
up to them in other ways, OK?
Virgo (SB): This offering has begun as Internet article for my website entitled “beliefisnotrequired”, therefore, I will not
spend the time explaining all the ways you can alienate the rest of us through your subconsciously passive-aggressive
behaviors when it comes to eating.  You are a closet masochist/victim.  The masochist at least will ritualize submissive
behaviors.  The victim causes those who want to get close to you to stay away...unless we sign on as sadists/perpetrators.
Always eating with smokers where they want to eat while being ignored?  Hello, victim.  Discern who wants to be healthy
and eat with them.  We’ll accept you after you accept your eccentricities.
Libra (CB): Take it from a Libra SB (Libra Moon), while you may consistently feel that you deserve only the sweet, there
are times I’ll give you ESB (Extra Special Bitter, like the beer), just to keep your privileged ass balanced (insert fortunate
or lucky for privilege, if that suits your purposes).  Actually the bitter is good for you because you lean towards Diabetes.
It’s your ruling planet, Venus.  She wants lots of joys and sweets.  Not every Libran has pancreatic challenges.  Keep the
company peaceful and the surroundings harmonious, food excels as the third priority.  No doubt.  Remember to throw
some salt into the sugar, OK?
Libra (SB): Prince’s song from his hit movie Purple Rain, “Take Me With You” told the story of your subconscious bias
with regards to food.  A lover, friend, mate or acquaintance needs to prove worthy of your company (that is, when you’re
not being needy and dependent).  Once worthy, you
don’t care where we go/or what we do/just take me with you.”  I
can still see Apollonia riding on Prince’s motorbike.  How romantic they were driving in full fall colors.  A little beastly talk
to balance out the beauty helps matters too.
Scorpio (CB): Complicated cream sauces, multiple and contradictory spices work well for your extreme tastes.  You’re
willing to starve yourself all day to get what you desire.  And, you’re willing to walk away from a partner or restaurant if
what you want is no longer available, or the service is poor for no reason.  Acknowledge that others are not accustomed to
looking at reality as deeply as you and life flows more easily.  The same holds true in the kitchen.  You’ll use garlic (or
onions) simple to see (or test) if you can obtain passionate kisses anyway.
Scorpio (SB): Secretly, you act counter dependently when it comes to food.  Rebelling against what Mommie Dearest
cooked, you won’t eat even those things you liked because of the memories, hence the counter dependency.  Once you
forgive and nurture yourself (regardless of your budget, can’t work if you’re not healthy), you become one of the best
cooks and restaurant scouts about.  You observe.  You listen.  You secure the correct dish for the correct dish.  Magnetic
to a point of hypnotic, I don’t eat with your kind unless I want to consider seduction.  My phone number is...
Sagittarius (CB): The perennial boy or girl scout, that’s you.  I’ve known your tribe to bring over all the of the goodies to
prepare your favorite dessert or appetizer.  It’s not that you can’t do the entire dinner, it’s just you want eating to be a
group (and multi cultural) effort.  The more the merrier unless you’re horny and overdue...then, it’s the one-to-one where
your mutable ways make knees turn into Jell-O and hearts overflow like an ice fountain at a wedding reception.  Pettiness
and too much critique of the food, restaurant or service turns you off, at least for the night.
Sagittarius (SB): Church pot lucks and university receptions are where you burn bright.  You want to party and therefore
eat with a purpose.  Connect food with a cause and you will talk us out of our money (and underwear) before we know
we’ve lost either one.  As long as you are aware that you can be pretty preachy when you’re full and satisfied, you’ll get a
second date.  Forget this point and we’ll cease returning your phone calls.  Foreign foods serve best.
Capricorn (CB): Where do the beautiful eat?  That’s where you want to be.  If you’re the humble beginnings kind of
Capricorn, you’ll cook the best ingredients within your budget (secretly hoping your family and mate recognizes).  Like
your other earth sibling, Taurus, you’re a meat and potatoes, pretty standard fare, but you’d like free range (particularly if
you have some strong Aquarius or Virgo in your chart).  A Spartan of sorts, therefore, you’ll starve yourself for a day or
two under the guise of self-sacrifice to have a lush meal with your chosen one later.
Capricorn (SB): You eat what your surroundings dictate.  You’ll try monkey’s brains when in the area where they’re
considered delicacies.  You’ll grimace, but you’ll begin to think you’re smarter due to the chimpanzee’s grey matter
coursing through your digestive tract.  It’s important you don’t have only power lunches.  It becomes predictable and dull
when you cannot relax over a meal because you have too much to prove to a mother who didn’t know how to love
unconditionally.  Eat what brings you joy, then exercise, if you need to, OK?
Aquarius (CB): Alien tastes for a being from another planet.  You seek out the future trends in eating.  Possessing a
sensitive digestive tract, it becomes increasingly important to not try every fad diet or meal simply because it decreases this
or that potential disease.  Use your awareness of the planet as a whole to know what fits for you and let the rest of your
fears melt you like a pat of butter on a hot baked potato.  Sometimes you may have to eat meat to stay grounded within the
Earth’s atmosphere.  It’s not the end of the world...keep away from extremes.
Aquarius (SB): Alien tastes from being the dark sheep in your family of origin.  Like Scorpio, you harbor rebellions,
although yours are usually more open.  So what your mother didn’t know about your love of creamed herring (and you’re
not Jewish) or tamales (and you’re not Mexican).  Get over it.  Eat breakfast for dinner if your spirit moves you in that
direction.  We look to you for spontaneity within your hard won quirky reasoning...food is no different.
Pisces (CB): If there are no spirits with your meal (and you’re not alcoholic), get them.  Well, you don’t want to do this at
lunch.  But, when you have the time and inclination, make as many meals as you can an event to be remembered.  Mix
cultures, drink white wine with medium rare steak or red wine with fish, it makes more sense that you combine your
eclecticism than to play it safe (unless you have prominent Cap or Taurus).  Music is must.  Set up the situation for
seduction, even if it’s not physical.
Pisces (SB): Escapist tendencies exist for any Pisces.  Yours gains strength because of your unwillingness to acknowledge
your need to lose control.  Yes, it’s a need.  Start with food.  Typically, we eat to share ourselves, and we’re fully clothed.
Make meals as unique as you are.  But if you rush to eat or connect, you seem desperate and controlling and needy.  Pray
or meditate before you eat anything, it’ll not only impress us, but it honors the life form who gave their energies for your
continued growth.  Spirituality and other healthy escapes are advised only.
