INTEGRATION OF PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE: DIY VINTAGE CONTEMPLATION POINTS

Welcome to my first column for Vintage KC.? Our mission, and I?ve accepted it is to ?inform the readers of the styles, fashion, technology, art and crafts of the past and how they fit in the contemporary world of people and things? (this is not a mission impossible, for sure).? When you think ?Vintage? also envision ?Roots?.

You might already know me as a practicing astrologer.? However, over the past decade, particularly since 9/11 (vintage reference date, for sure), my practice has morphed into more of a life coach.? I am excited to begin another chapter here with Vintage KC.? Yes, I wrote for The Pitch when it was called The PitchWeekly.? As a non-practicing attorney, I know a bit about the past (attorneys tend to follow trends, not set them).? However, this is a trend of mine for the DIY magazine that is known as Vintage KC.

A next step for DIY will be in the area for physical health and wellness, coming soon.

Not more than ninety years ago to see a psychologist or psychiatrist was considered taboo.? Let?s look at a vintage psychologist as an astrologer, shaman, midwife or even a priest.? Any open minded psychologist will honor that astrology predates and is its progenitor.? The ?soul word? or ?psyche logos? and ?star word? or ?astro logos? are intimately connected.? Vintage western astrology got its beginning in the late 19th century because newspaper editors wanted to fill up their column inches.? Had it my way, I?d would have wanted to write a contemplative column (like this one) to balance out our attachment to our smartphones and abbreviated human connection.

I want this column to be a bridge, a healing, as it were to get us speaking to each other about what really matters.? Does the fact that you are a Taurus or Sagittarius matter?? Yes, however, your star words must be delivered in relational context.? Like soul words of ?persona?, ?subconscious? or ?projection?, these are relational.? Could you imagine the very things you place value upon in Vintage KC Magazine our fore-parents using such soul words?? If you are looking to the things created in the past, why not look to the star words of the past?

Look To What We Have In Common:? Our Birthday and its Element

Each of us has a birthday.? Each of us has an elemental make up. ?Each of the four elements are either masculine (yang) or feminine (yin).? I?ll use yang and yin to trick your mind into transcending thinking feminine/yin energy cannot be located within a male body, or vice versa.? Refusing to accept we are a combination of both is like saying we only exhale (yang) or inhale (yin), as if?we breathe in and out, like we are both yang and yin.

When our ancestors looked up to the sky, they told stories about our souls.? Our individuality existed within a community.? It is a relatively recent phenomenon that ?individuality? was a focus for each soul within a community, family or tribe.? In true Vintage DIY, we must reinstate time to contemplate the nature of our souls.? We must root ourselves at the intersection of Individuality and Collective Roads. Our souls as our witness to the decisions we make; our souls contain our history, collective and individual.? If we truly want to DIY, we have to temper our extreme connection to the individual and its narcissistic leanings.? Yoga, meditation, prayer and active daydreaming can all be considered ?vintage?.

So, a question in DIY Spirit mutates from ?What?s your sign?? to ?What?s your element??

It all begins with fire, the element of spirit.? Fire is where we allow our perfected vision to manifest in our mind?s eye, heart and putting energy into motion aka ?emotion?.? For the purposes of this column for Vintage KC, contemplate these words, read them aloud as vintage soul sitting around a fire with your tribe.

What is Your Vintage?

The fire element shows itself through Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.? Our souls show through our Moon signs (you will have to meet me halfway here, as you?ll need to reach out to offer your birthdate, time, preferably within 15 minutes either way and city of birth, if do not know).? If you want the true Vintage KC experience, I suggest you do this because on a practical level the Moon influences how you nurture others aka mothering, eating habits and even your connection to the past and relationship to your home.? For the unconvinced, you may use your Sun sign, but knock off at least 30% of my interpretation.? For the skeptical, realize Astrology is a language that uses scientific measurements and an art form.? You need a human to help you access your Vintage/Roots self (period). If you?re astrologically schooled enough you will know two things:? the four elements and your Moon sign.? FEAW, Fire, Earth, Air, Water.? I?ll be a human who can help you.

Writer?s note:? Maybe find some Google Images of each element??

Vintage Fire (Intuiting)

Vintage fire has very little patience for ambiguity or cowardice.? It wants to act and act now!? The worst thing you can do to someone of this vintage is to want more information, particularly if it is seen as to stall action.? Their visions are full of possibilities.? However, when they are truly acting from vision, their Vintage selves have studied the practical and physical shortcomings of their tribe (that, of course, they are leading).? Vintage Aries examines those in authority in order to challenge said authority when they have ceased taking in new and worthwhile info (or have become hypocritical, think Kevin Bacon in the movie Footloose or Colin Kapernick peacefully protesting our National Anthem).? Leo wants to have simple luxuries based on their own value system, so Vintage Leo can be extremely resistance to any other perspective that challenges their sense of personal authority about how their homes of lives ought to be arranged.? Root fire, when left unexamined of how its imperatives affect others can easily been as the grumpy old man shouting at the children playing on the street (privilege, left unchecked for far too long, can easily become mean-spirited).? The classic ?mean girl? makes its way through a Vintage Sag.? These joyous, but excessively expansive spirits, can compartmentalize like nobody?s business almost too a point of speaking out of both sides of their typically large mouths seeming to not know truth, when really they want to serve all.? In other words, they pretend and improvise to obscure how we can unify in lieu of dividing.? Think a sporting event where we can do the wave or continue going to the concession stands to partake of empty calories or potential driving under various influences?

Vintage Earth (Sensing)

Vintage Earth (Taurus, Virgo & Capricorn) has the additional burden of being curious about everything, particularly when Virgo is involved.? The proverbial ?jack of all trades, master of none? can be found for those with prominent Virgo in a Vintage world.? Virgo carries the world upon their shoulders.? These meticulous soldiers remind us of the details of daily living.? These people recycled brown paper bags before anyone asked them to do so.? Loving a Virgo means you love their messes as well as their successes.? Talk them off that proverbial ledge of thinking they are ever good enough.? Capricorn has a knack for control, focus and delegation.? A needing to be right, diplomatic and conforming runs their past loving selves.? As a matter of fact, Capricorn is the sign (along with their opposite, Cancer) that has the pattern of vintage within their souls.? These two signs begin seasons (so they want to get us going, motivating us to action), but their element earth and water are attuned to the past.? Compassion becomes like bread unto divine waters.? These sea-goats offer themselves to our thirsty world an incredible communal future like a hipster enjoys their hoppy beer from Boulevard Brewery.? (Yes, it is that important to these souls who want no disharmony in their immediate friendship/lover circle to be seen as wise folk who guide us to grow into maturity).? It can get a bit cra, cra, for sure, but rarely does their attention become stalker-like.? Taurus has a hidden eccentric side to them that?s channels the future of the planet within their very practical natures.? As a matter of fact (and these souls love downloading spirit energy into matter, ever made love to one, then you have felt their physical intensity), they are trending on Twitter or any other communicative medium about the latest earth ship or conspiracy theory.? Resist the temptation to take their futuristic musings for a lack of awareness of the past that got us to our present moment for granted.? Once they lose their attachment to the beautiful bauble aka ?trophy? partner, then they are solid in their determination about what ultimately becomes and STAYS vintage.? Cheap or frugal has a lot to do with value judgments, but they ultimately see a Vintage world based upon true communal living.? They can easily be Vintage Savants, true that?

Vintage Air (Thinking)

Vintage Air (Gemini, Libra & Aquarius) with all its intellectual prowess, knows on some level an emotional component must be projected for any true past to present to future living occurs.? The dichotomy can be experienced as a classic ?freedom v closeness? dilemma.? It seems that these folk want to consistently live in world where ?don?t fence me in? is a chorus that only others of their tribe can understand.? However, as the physical dimension is rife with paradox, once these freely circulating signs mature, they begin to realize that a profound manner to become Vintage is to commit.? Commit to principle, their words, hell, even their physical bodies will get them on that biblical road to salvation (and, no, I am not proposing baptism, s*#t, I am enormously frustrated that we still refuse to discuss what the three major patriarchal religions have in common?wait, for it?it is the oppression of women).? You understand Vintage Air airs the uncomfortable in public much like a fart in an elevator.? Simply, I want the elevator to elevate us to a higher consciousness and unity.? If were not for the air signs, we would not have our allegedly cherished Bill of Rights. These reasonable people who like the yang, masculine fire signs of Sag, Aries and Leo can easily be seen as ?broad, not necessarily deep?.? Aquarius is likely to have the most depth in Vintage world because they are so connected to what has to be sacrificed for our collective future, no dystopian visions allowed, ok?? Libra has to feel like they belong to a hodgepodge family of their own creating.? Is said family dysfunctional, well, hell yeah?how can you mediate with a bunch of folk who have no conflicts?? Now, that does not mean that the scale-bearer won?t create a conflict or two?and, Gemini has a duality of feeling that?s usually called ?mixed feelings? and the more they believe in nothing from the past, the worse off they usually are.

?

Vintage Water (Feeling)

After Vintage Air which in its shadow function can bring all sorts of political and divisive movements that create racism, sexism, classism, heterosexism, etc?Water blends and gets us to feel the intersectionality of our various oppressions.? Goddess, yes, water even gets this black male to speak to white men about how much freedom I have to experience my masculinity within a context that does not include an ?expectation? of toxic masculine control because, hey, I was not expected to be here?queer and vibrantly alive.? I am of the Vintage Water element.? Over the past couple of months I have sent a cosmic buoy to my favorite mothership (probably discovered about 40 years ago through George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, hello, Flashlight), to take me home.? This planet has become remedial in its evolution.? That where?s I?ve got to let go of my attachment to outcome.? Vintage Water of Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces have to come to grips with their ego and the ensuing attachments.? Each water sign is a member of the ?Evolutionary Police?.? We watch (and sometimes hover) over whether or not you are growing at a pace to our liking.? Our support comes an observational price of seeing how fast or slow you do it.? Cancer can be too warrior like, ready to throw away the past because of some present wound or slight, taking too much too personally.? I sense the phrase, ?throw the baby out with the bath water? was a Vintage Cancer action.? (If you go estate shopping with them, be clear about what you want, resist the temptation to let their grunts or silence judge you).? Scorpio in their vintage form must save face at all costs.? When evolved their hearts shine like a sunny day in Seattle, wanted, but not anticipated and joy abounds.? In the Vintage Pisces world, they can sometimes believe the stories they tell (can you really explain religion?).? The influence these people yield make a right wing broadcaster humble themselves because when the last sign of zodiac recognizes what is valuable from the past (and expresses it), angels take notice.? Paradoxically, these extremely sensitive folk can seem so genuine that they are portrayed as charlatans?or speaking ?mumbo jumbo?.? Can you explain faith?

What Do You Think:? Vintage Contemplation Points

Writer?s Note 1:? What do you think? Instead saying that my column could say ?Vintage Contemplations Point: What Do You Think? Or What Do You Intuit, Sense, Think or Feel?? A play on FEAW (Fire, Earth, Air, Water & Jungian Mental/Cognitive Types)?? DIY Mantic Arts (can write a blog or entire article on ?mantic?.? DIY Divination (possible name for column) DIY Mantic (basically the same)?

What if there were a ban on new products and you could not make or buy new materials, what would you make or buy?

What does your soul say, your shared piece of vintage living make your day full of joy and gratitude?

How can you make more time for contemplation about really matters?
